Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at an initial consultation?
Initial consultations typically last 60–90 minutes. Before your appointment, you’ll receive a consent form and case history form to complete. Filling these out in advance helps us make the most of our time together.
During the appointment, we will:
-
Review your completed forms and discuss your concerns, goals, and any relevant background information.
-
Observe your baby feeding or assess your child’s communication skills, depending on your reason for attending.
-
Make tailored adjustments to feeding or communication approaches based on your goals.
-
Spend time discussing strategies, answering questions, and ensuring you feel confident about the next steps.
After the appointment, you will receive a personalised feeding plan or communication recommendations.
Can speech therapy assist with fussy feeding, tube weaning and oral‑motor development?
Absolutely. Speech‑language therapists are trained to support a wide range of feeding challenges, including fussy feeding, oral motor development, and swallowing difficulties. We focus on creating successful, stress‑free mealtimes through responsive feeding approaches, while also supporting the muscle strength, coordination, and sensory skills needed for safe and efficient feeding and swallowing.
What types of practical resources do you provide for families?
We offer play based parent strategies and specialised tools designed for home use, including communication boards, visuals and play based home activities. These tools empower families to integrate therapy techniques into their daily routines seamlessly and effectively.
I have some quick and short questions about my baby's feeding. I don't want a full consultation. Can you help?
Yes, absolutely. I offer flexible SLT/Lactation text or WhatsApp support for quick questions and short‑term guidance. You pay per week, and I’ll respond to any messages within 24 hours. This is perfect for brief questions, reassurance, or small troubleshooting steps without the need for a full appointment. If you prefer, we can also arrange a short telephone call to go over your questions.
